SF Bay Area in November
October 29, 2012
Hello everyone,
I hope you all are well.
I
will be in the Bay Area in November to participate in a Lhamo (Tibetan opera) performance with Chaksampa. This production is part of the Opera Project put together by the San Francisco World Music Festival. This is a three day event of opera performances of Chinese, Taiwanese, Aizerbajan, and Tibetan.
Our performance will be Ache Nangsa, an opera about a female folk hero in Tibet. It will be on November 9th. All performances will take place at the Jewish Community Center in San Francisco. For more information, please visit www.ChakSampa.org.
Since my last updates, my band and I were in Minneapolis for a concert which was put together by the Tibetan American Foundation TFM. I am always so reluctant to ask the community organizations to organize a concert for us because the community leader, most of them are volunteers and are already doing so much service for the community, but I am grateful to TFM for putting this event together. TFM is an active organization that is doing quite a wonderful job in maintaining the center but also youth activities. Please visit the TAFM website and support them.
I cannot thank enough all the love and support we received from my relatives Ugyen Namgyal family and Tenzin la family and friends and former member of Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts; Tenzin Wangdak, Sonam Sangpo, Sherap Wangmo, Tsering Wangmo and Kelsang Phuntsok la family, and my family friend Kelsang Lhamo la.
We thank you all for your kindness and believing in our work. The concert on September 29 went well and we thank everyone for showing up. Here are two videos from that event shot by Thor Anderson.
Of course the highlight of my recent concert was opening for His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Virginia on October 11 with Rinzing Wangyal la. Right after our opening we were standing with the the native American dancers and His Holiness came and blessed us. He looked at me and said "You were from Dhoegar? (meaning Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts)" I couldn't believe for a moment, that he still remembers me after many years. In fact we were together in Japan several years ago. I want to thank the organizers in Virginia for the wonderful job they have done in bringing His Holiness. My special thanks to Dan Haigs and his family.
We are now discussing a plan to tour the west coast this winter. We hope to be in LA, the Bay Area, Seattle, Portland and maybe Vancouver BC.
As always, please don't leave my website without clicking this link below to support our Tibet movement. Please join us in the streets this coming Wednesday, October 31 and help show China's next emperor Xi Jinping that he will be the last to rule Tibet.
